The 2025–26 season is Leeds United's 105th season in existence, their first season back in the Premier League following promotion the previous campaign, 16th overall season in the Premier League, and 54th season in the top flight of English football.[1][2] In addition to the domestic league, the club is also participating in this season's editions of the FA Cup and EFL Cup. The season covers the period from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026.

Review

Background

The 2024–25 season marked a successful campaign for Leeds United, as the club secured automatic promotion to the Premier League by finishing first in the EFL Championship with 100 points. Under the management of Daniel Farke, Leeds recorded 95 goals scored and only 30 goals conceded, achieving a goal difference of 65.[3] The club experienced only four league defeats, all by a single-goal margin, and clinched the title on the final day of the season with a 90th-minute winner against Plymouth Argyle.[4]

Several players made notable contributions throughout the season. Joël Piroe was the club's top scorer with 19 league goals.[5] Daniel James and Manor Solomon both recorded double-digit totals in goals and assists.[6] Wilfried Gnonto was named the club's Young Player of the Year following a career-best season.[7] In defence, Ethan Ampadu and Pascal Struijk provided stability, while mid-season signing Ao Tanaka played a key role in central midfield after his arrival.[8]

The club’s cup performances included a fourth-round exit in the FA Cup and a first-round elimination in the EFL Cup. Despite the departure of key players in the summer, Leeds were able to rebuild effectively under Farke’s leadership. The season is regarded as one of Leeds United’s strongest second-tier campaigns in recent history.[9]

Leeds United announced on 7 March 2025 that CEO Angus Kinnear would be leaving at the conclusion of the 2024–25 campaign. On 29 May the club made internal key leadership appointments, Robbie Evans was promoted to Managing Director, Adam Underwood - who had been at the club since November 2014 - was promoted to Sporting Director, Morrie Eisenberg was appointed as Chief Business Officer, and Fay Greer was appointed as Chief Financial Officer.[10]

Pre-season and friendlies

Leeds United announced pre-season friendlies against Manchester United, Villarreal and AC Milan.[11][12][13]
