Andrej Bačanin (Serbian Cyrillic: Андреј Бачанин; born 7 March 2007) is a Serbian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Swiss Super League club Basel.[2]
Club career
A native of Belgrade, Serbia, Andrej began his football career at the academy of the Red Star Belgrade.[3] From there, he moved to the younger categories of Čukarički, and was an important part of all the younger categories of the club.[4]
Čukarički
On 8 March 2022, he signed his first professional contract with Čukarički.[5] In November 2022, he signed a new deal until 2026.[6] After good results in the youth sector, he was transferred to the first team and in September 2024, his contract was extended until the end of June 2027.[7]
Andrej was first included in the club's roster for a match in the 9th round of the 2023–24 Serbian SuperLiga season, against Jedinstvo Ub, but did not appear on the pitch.[8] He made his professional debut in the match from 13th round in the same season, replacing Uroš Miladinović in the 80th minute of the match against Partizan.[9][10]
Basel
On July 31, 2025, Bačanin joined Swiss Super League club Basel on a five-year deal worth €2.3 million plus €700,000 in add-ons.[11]
International career
He played for the Serbian national teams at U15, U16, U17 and U19 levels.[12]
