Vrouwenvoetbal Kennemerland e.o. (VVK) or Telstar Vrouwen is a Dutch women's football club based in Velsen, North Holland that plays in the Dutch top level Eredivisie. It has historically been affiliated with men's team SC Telstar, sharing a logo and home stadium, though the club management has announced its plans to have the women's team be run by a new club, Hera United, based in Amsterdam, beginning as early as September 2025.[1][2]
The club was established in 2011 as Sportclub Telstar Vrouwenvoetbal Noord-Holland and played in the Eredivisie and BeNe League. In the 2016–17 season, future Dutch national striker Katja Snoeijs led the league with 21 goals.[3] After that season, the team relocated to Alkmaar and formed VV Alkmaar.[4][5][6] In January 2022, media outlets reported Telstar, under the new VVK organization, would rejoin the Eredivisie the following season.[7][8] Following its comeback, the club finished second-to-last in its first three seasons.
Marelle Worm, who coached the team upon its return to the Eredivisie in 2022, was fired in February 2025. She was replaced by Ed Engelkes.[9][10][11]
In July 2024, Telstar announced a partnership with Hera United, a newly formed women's football club, that could lead to Hera operating the Eredivisie club beginning in the 2025–26 season.[1] This change requires approval from the KNVB.[12] Hera intends to play its matches at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam,[13] including a potential Amsterdam derby with AFC Ajax, though it may continue to play some of its matches in Velsen in 2025 and future years.[14] In December 2024, the KNVB approved a rule change allowing a women's-only club to field a professional team, a necessary step for Hera to take over the club.[15] In June 2025, the KNVB approved additional needed rule changes.[16] In August, the club announced it would play its home games at Sportpark Goed Genoeg in Amsterdam for the 2025–26 season.[2]
