It operates under the ownership of Record Media Group PLC, which also manages sister stations including RecordTV Uganda, Record TV Africa, and Record News (English). The station broadcasts a variety of programming including news, entertainment, religious, and lifestyle content.[1]
History
Record TV Kenya was launched as part of Record Media Group’s expansion in East Africa. The group also established RecordTV Uganda, which operated from 2006 to 2021 before it ceased broadcasting due to financial difficulties worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.[2] The Kenyan station was co-founded by media entrepreneurs Felix Muranda and Shadrack Matata.[1]
Programming
Record TV Kenya's schedule includes:
- Local and national news coverage
- Religious and inspirational programs
- Cultural and lifestyle shows
- Music and entertainment content
According to its official website, the channel aims to "inform, inspire, and entertain with an African voice."[1]
Ownership
The station is owned by Record Media Group PLC, a media company headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. The same group previously operated RecordTV Uganda and currently runs Record News (English).[1]
Closure of Record TV Uganda
RecordTV Uganda ceased operations on 31 March 2021. The station cited reduced advertising revenues during the COVID-19 period as a primary reason for closure. Its sister radio station, 97.7 Record FM, continued operations.[2]
