Bengaluru East railway station, also known as Bangalore East railway station (station code: BNCE), is an old British-era railway station surrounded by Pottery Road, Kumaraswamy Naidu Road, Murgesha Mudaliar Road and Kenchappa Road. It is a small quaint station located in Fraser Town, Bangalore Cantonment. This station is very convenient for residents traveling towards or returning from Kolar Gold Fields or Madras. Express and Mail trains did not stop here until the 1920s. The station is now renovated with a larger platform. Adjacent to the railway station is the Bangalore East Football Grounds, which nowadays is more used for playing cricket. Bangalore North Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 28 Lok Sabha (lower house of the Indian Parliament) constituencies in the South Indian state of Karnataka. This constituency has been known by different names in its history. For the 1951 and every election since 1977 it has been known as Bangalore North. For the 1957 and 1962 elections it was known as Bangalore City. For the 1967 and 1971 elections it formed a constituency jointly with Bangalore South and was known as Bangalore. From 1951–73, this constituency resided in Mysore State. On 1 November 1973, Mysuru State was renamed as Karnataka.
Bangalore North held its first elections in 1951 and its first member of parliament (MP) was Keshava Iyengar of the Indian National Congress (INC). He was re-elected in the next election in 1957. K. Hanumanthaiya also of the INC represented this constituency for three consecutive terms from 1962 to 1977. C. K. Jaffer Sharief of the INC was its MP for five consecutive terms from 1977–1996 before being denied ticket in the 1996 election. C. The place is mentioned as Ballalapura thanda in a record dated 1598 from the local Adinarayana temple. It might have originated from the Hoysala name Ballala, and later become corrupted as Ballapura. It is also believed that the village derived its name from a cow used to drop one 'balla' of milk over a certain anthill and this omen led to the foundation of the town. Bengaluru Cantonment railway station, also known as Bengaluru Cant (station code: BNC) is one of the four important railway stations serving the city of Bengaluru and it is located in the locality of Vasanth Nagar and adjoins Fraser Town, Benson Town and Shivajinagar. The Station started operations in 1864, with the launch of the Bengaluru Cantonment – Jolarpettai train services by the Madras Railway. The train line was broad-gauge and 149 km long, connecting the Bengaluru Cantonment with Vellore district. A total of 119 passenger trains start/end/pass through Bengaluru Cantonment railway station.
