Leszczno [ˈlɛʂt͡ʂnɔ] (German: Holzhagen) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Przybiernów, within Goleniów County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland.[1] It lies approximately 10 km (6 mi) north-east of Przybiernów, 28 km (17 mi) north of Goleniów, and 47 km (29 mi) north-east of the regional capital Szczecin.
In the 960s the area became part of Poland after Mieszko I defeated the local Slavic tribes. The area became German-speaking as the result of Ostsiedlung. The suffix -hagen of the historic village name is typical for settlements founded by Germans during Medieval Ostsiedlung.[2]During the Thirty Years' War, the settlement fell under control of the Swedish Empire by stayed part of Germany. Later on, within Germany, it passed to Prussia. For the history of the region, see History of Pomerania. In 1945-46, all residents were expelled by the Polish Communist regime. For the history of the region, see History of Pomerania.
