The India cricket team toured England from June to August 2025 to play the England cricket team.[1] The tour consisted of five Test matches.[2][3] The series formed part of the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship.[4] In August 2024, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the fixtures for the tour, as a part of the 2025 home international season.[5][6]

The Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy, honouring James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar, was awarded to the winner of the series.[7] Initiated by Sachin Tendulkar, with the support of the BCCI and ECB, the Pataudi Medal of Excellence was a newly introduced award for the winning captain of the Test series.[8]

Squads

On 17 June, Harshit Rana was added into the Indian squad for the first Test.[11] Harshit Rana was released from the Indian squad, and did not travel with India for the second Test.[12] On 20 July, Anshul Kamboj was added into the squad as a backup pacer.[13] On 21 July, Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out of the remainder match due to an injury in his left knee and Arshdeep Singh was ruled out of the fourth test due to an injury to his left thumb.[14][15] On 22 July, Akash Deep was ruled out of the fourth test due to a groin injury.[16] During the fourth Test, Rishabh Pant fractured his foot and was ruled out of the series, later Narayan Jagadeesan was named as his replacement.[17]

On 26 June, Jofra Archer was added into the England squad for the second Test but was not included for the 5th test.[18] On 6 July, Gus Atkinson was added to the squad for the third Test.[19] On 14 July, Shoaib Bashir was ruled out of the remainder of the series due to sustaining a fracture to a finger in his left hand,[20] with Liam Dawson named as his replacement.[21] Meanwhile Sam Cook and Jamie Overton were released to their respective counties to play in the County Championship.[22] However, later Overton was recalled back in the squad for the fifth Test.[23] On 30 July, Ben Stokes was ruled out of the fifth Test due to a right shoulder injury, and Ollie Pope named as captain.[24]

  • Jasprit Bumrah (Ind) held the record for the highest number of Test wickets in SENA nations by any Asian bowler and equalled Kapil Dev’s away five-wicket haul tally.[33]
  • Chris Woakes (Eng) scored his 2,000th run in Tests.[34]
  • KL Rahul (Ind) completed 1,000 Test runs against England matched the second-most fifty-plus scores by an Indian opener in SENA Tests.[35]
  • Rishabh Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score centuries in both innings of a Test.[36]
  • Five centuries were scored by Indian batsmen for the first time in a single Test.[37] It was also the first occurrence of the losing team scoring five centuries in a Test.
  • Ben Stokes (Eng) became the third England captain to claim 50 wickets in Test cricket .
