Despite Republicans being encouraged to write-in Democratic candidate Patrick Dugan, his campaign stated that he would decline the nomination if he received the most votes.^[9] However, after receiving over 6,000 write-in votes, Dugan announced in August that he would accept the Republican nomination.^[10]
