The 1950 Illinois Fighting Illini football team was an American football team that represented the University of Illinois as a member of the Big Nine Conference during the 1950 Big Nine season. In their ninth year under head coach Ray Eliot, the Fighting Illini compiled a 7–2 record (7–2 in conference games), finished in fourth place in the Big Nine, and outscored opponents by a total of 137 to 56. They were ranked No. 13 in the final AP poll. The lone setbacks were losses Wisconsin and Northwestern.[1]
End Tony Klimek was selected as the team's most valuable player.[2] Seven Illinois players received honors on the 1950 All-Big Ten Conference football team: halfback Dick Raklovits (AP-1, UP-1); end Tony Klimek (AP-1, UP-1); guard Chuck Brown (AP-1, UP-1); center Bill Vohaska (AP-1, UP-1); halfback Johnny Karras (AP-2, UP-2); tackle Al Tate (AP-2, UP-2); and guard Lynn Lynch (AP-2, UP-2).[3][4]
The team played its home games at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois.
