Yussif Moro Owusu (born 14 February 2006) is a Ghanaian born professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. U21. In July 2025, he signed his first professional contract with Brighton after progressing through its academy system.[1]

Early life and youth career

Owusu was born in Ghana to Ghanaian parents. He became a British citizen after joining his parent in England, making him eligible to represent either England or Ghana internationally.[2]

He began his youth career at the Chelsea F.C. Academy, featuring prominently at U16 and U18 levels.[3] In April 2022, he was pictured with Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea training.

Club career

Brighton & Hove Albion

In July 2022, Owusu transferred to Brighton & Hove Albion from Chelsea, joining the U18 squad.[4]

During the 2022–23 season, he made 14 appearances in the U18 Premier League and continued developing with regular matches in 2023–24.[5]

By 2024–25, Owusu was promoted to Brighton’s U21 squad. He made over 20 appearances in Premier League 2, scoring twice, and featured in the EFL Trophy and Premier League Cup.[6]

In July 2025, Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed Owusu had signed his first professional contract, highlighting his progress and potential.[1]

Style of play

Owusu is a tall (6 ft 4 in) defensive or central midfielder. He is known for his physicality, aerial strength, composure on the ball, tactical awareness, and strong tackling ability.[2]

International eligibility

Owusu is eligible to represent both England and Ghana at international level. As of July 2025, he has not received a senior national team call-up.[7]
