Wybrzeże Gdańsk SA (appears under the name Wybrzeże Gdańsk) is a Polish speedway club from Gdańsk.
History
The club was established in 2006, continuing the tradition of GKS Wybrzeże Gdańsk, which existed from 1962 to 2005.
To 2008 in league matches appeared association GKŻ Wybrzeże Gdańsk, and from 2009 season, after promotion to Ekstraliga club must have be a public corporation, so in league performed Wybrzeże Gdańsk Inc, that was established on 3 November 2008.
After 2014 season, Wybrzeże Gdańsk Inc lose a licence for riding in Team Speedway Polish Championship. Before start of the 2015 season, independent from corporation - association GKŻ Wybrzeże Gdańsk - took action to take part in league, with effect - they have got a licence and start 2015 season from the 2nd Polish league.
On 28 November 2023, the club was informed of establishing Wybrzeże Gdańsk Inc, because it was necessary to instigate to license process before 2024 season,[1] because of takeover 1st league by Ekstraliga Inc and change it into professional league.[2]
In the 2024 season, the team ranked last in the 1st league, consequently fell in the Polish National Speedway League.[3]
History
In 2005, organisation problems, caused by indebtedness from past years, drove the last section of GKS Wybrzeże Gdańsk to be taken over by a new club, who continued the tradition. Before the 2006 season, it completely excluded the activity of the GKS and established a new club in Gdańsk, which started from the last league. In the 2008 season, after winning with Rzeszów in play-offs, got promoted to Ekstraliga. On 3 November 2008, after established public corporation, the club got back the name "GKS Wybrzeże Gdańsk".
After 2009 season, the club fell to 1st league. In 2010 lost play-off match with Włókniarz Częstochowa. In 2011, the bulb was promoted to Ekstraliga, to a large extent by Darcy Ward who was hired from Unibax Toruń.
In 2014 the club was downgraded from Ekstraliga because of financial troubles and spent the 2015 season in 2nd league.
From 2016 to 2024, the club performed in 1st league. In 2017, it lost play-off matches with KS Toruń, 43:47 in Toruń, and 40:50 in Gdańsk.
In 2025, the club intends to perform in Polish National Speedway League.[4]
