The Meeting of Parliament Act 1694[a] (6 & 7 Will. & Mar. c. 2), also known as the Triennial Act 1694,[1] is an act of the Parliament of England. This act is Chapter II Rot. Parl. pt. 1. nu. 2.[2]
The act required Parliament to meet annually and to hold general elections once every three years.
As of 2025, the act is partly in force in England and Wales.[3] The sections of the act still in force require that Parliament hold a session at least once every three years.
Subsequent developments
Sections 3 and 4 of the act were repealed by section 1 of, and the schedule to, the Statute Law Revision Act 1867 (30 & 31 Vict. c. 59).
The whole act was repealed for the Republic of Ireland by section 3 of, and schedule 1 to, the Electoral Act 1963.
