Tiebei Prison (Chinese:铁北监狱), officially known as Jilin Provincial Changchun Tiebei Prison, is a provincial-level facility for serious offenders operated by the Jilin Provincial Prison Administration Bureau of the People's Republic of China. It is located at No. 2050 Yatai North Street in the Kuancheng District of Changchun, Jilin Province.
History and Overview
Established in 1952, Changchun Tiebei Prison covers an area of approximately 220,000 square meters. The prison comprises 24 administrative departments and 13 inmate housing units. It is one of five major prisons in Jilin Province that house serious offenders, including individuals convicted of official corruption and foreign nationals.
Controversies and Criticism
According to reports, China has repatriated more than 300 North Korean defectors from Changchun Tiebei Prison to North Korea.
