The Revolutionaries (Hindi: द रिवोल्यूशनरीज, romanized: Da Rivolyūśanareez) is an upcoming Indian period action drama web series directed by Nikkhil Advani and set to premiere in 2026 on Amazon Prime Video. The series is based on the non-fiction book Revolutionaries: The Other Story Of How India Won Its Freedom by Sanjeev Sanyal,[2] and explores the lives of young Indian freedom fighters who believed armed resistance was essential to ending British colonial rule.
Premise
Set during the Indian independence movement, the series follows a group of young revolutionaries who engage in armed resistance against British colonial rule. It explores their motivations, actions, and the historical context of their involvement, presenting a dramatized account of their role in the broader struggle for India's [3][4]
Cast
Production
The Revolutionaries is directed by Nikkhil Advani and produced by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani. Casting for the series is overseen by Kavish Sinha. Filming is taking place across multiple locations in India, including Mumbai, Amritsar, Varanasi, and Dehradun.[11][12][13]
The production design is led by Surabhi Verma, with costume design by Sakshi Goel. The art department includes Ankit Gupta, Rohit Nalawade, and Jainil Sachde. Gaffer Imsajidshaikh is credited with lighting. Parag Chadha contributed to casting for secondary and tertiary roles.[14][15]
Release
The series is scheduled for release in 2026 and is expected to be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. According to a press release, it will be accessible in over 240 countries and territories.[16]
Promotion
The first look of the series was revealed via Prime Video’s official Instagram handle. A 56-second teaser showcases the revolutionaries in disguises, engaging in underground resistance activities against British rule. Rohit Saraf is shown in a wrestling ground setting, while Bhuvan Bam sports a never-before-seen look. Pratibha Ranta, known for Laapataa Ladies, also appears as a fighter in the resistance.[17][18]
Director’s Statement
In a press release, director Nikkhil Advani described the series as a "deeply enriching and enlightening experience," and cited Sanjeev Sanyal’s book as a key source for exploring lesser-known aspects of India's independence movement. He acknowledged Prime Video's support in developing the project and noted that the cast had contributed significantly to portraying the historical figures. Advani stated that the creative team aimed to deliver a narrative that is both historically grounded and engaging for a global audience.[19]
