Texila American University (TAU) is a private university offering programs in medicine, public health, business management, information technology,[1] owned by the Texila American University. Texila's U.S. offices is in Texas. The University is located in Guyana, South America and has its clinical campus of its medical school in both Guyana and Arizona in the United States.[2]

The school is registered with the National Accreditation Council of Guyana and has accredited with the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine(CAAM-HP) and other Health Professions and the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM). It is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.

Management and organization

TAU was established in Guyana in September 2010 offering courses in medicine and dentistry.[3] The initial classes were offered at the Critchlow Labour College on Woolford Avenue in Georgetown, and in 2011, they moved to a campus in Goedverwagting, Sparendaam.[2] In 2012, the university expanded its programs to offer nursing certifications.[3] TAU graduated its first set doctors in 2014, followed by hundreds of graduate physicians in 2015, 2016 and 2017[4] out of a total enrollment of 422 students from 35 countries.[5] In 2014, the school began an expansion hoping to accommodate up to 1000 students at a new campus located in Providence, East Bank Demerara.[2] IDK

Programs offered

College of Medicine

Texila American University offers a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, combining two years of basic sciences in Guyana with two years of clinical rotations. Students may complete clinical training at affiliated hospitals in Guyana, the United States, or at approved independent facilities in Europe or Asia. Applicants who have completed pre-medical studies elsewhere or hold an equivalent bachelor’s degree may receive advanced standing subject to university approval.

Public Health and Management

For students pursuing non-medical pathways, the university offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in Public Health, Business Management and Nursing .These programs are designed for professionals seeking leadership roles in healthcare, policy, and organizational management, with flexible learning formats to accommodate working students.

Accreditation

Texila American University (TAU) in Guyana has received accreditation from both the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) and the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM). Additionally, TAU is registered with the National Accreditation Council of Guyana and recognized by the Higher Education Authority of the Ministry of Education in Guyana. By virtue of its listing in IMED, students graduating from Texila are authorized to take part in the United States Medical Licensing Examination three-part examinations. Those who pass the examinations are eligible according to the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates to register for and participate in the National Resident Matching Program(NRMP).[5] Texila is also accredited by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
