László Szakács (born 7 December 1975) is a Hungarian jurist and politician. He has served multiple terms as a Member of the National Assembly, with the Hungarian Socialist Party and later as a candidate of the Democratic Coalition following his expulsion from Hungarian Socialist Party in 2021.[1]
Education and early career
Szakács graduated from Batthyány Lajos Gymnasium and Health Vocational School in Nagykanizsa in 1994, and earned a law degree from the University of Pécs in 2000.
Political career
Szakács served as Deputy Mayor of Komló from 2002 to 2006. He was first elected to the National Assembly of Hungry in 2006, representing the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP). He was Vice-Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Hungarian Communities Abroad. Returning to Parliament in 2014, he served as Deputy Floor Leader for MSZP and as a member of both the Budget and Economic Committees. He again gained a seat in 2019 from the Hungarian Socialist Party national list after the resignation of Tóbiás József, who served until 2021.[2]
In June 2021, Szakács was suspended and later expelled from the MSZP due to internal conflicts and speculation about his alignment with Democratic Coalition. He ran as a Democratic Coalition candidate in the 2021 opposition primary in Pécs–Komló, winning the nomination.[3]
