Shia Muslims represent a small percentage in Australia, with around 30,000 followers as of 2008,[1] living mainly in capital cities like Melbourne and Sydney.[2] They mainly attend events in mosques, like Muharram and Eid.[3] [4]Shia centres are active all over Australia.[5] Approximately less than 1 percent of Australia’s population are Shia.[6] There are mainly large Shia communities in Melbourne and Sydney compared to regional areas.
