SG Mall, officially known as the Semanhyia Golden Mall, is a shopping and entertainment complex located in the Ayigya–Bomso area of Kumasi, Ghana. It opened in December 2021 and includes over 10,000 square meters of retail space, a four-screen cinema, and various commercial and recreational facilities[1][2][3]
History
SG Mall was developed by Ghanaian entrepreneur John Akortsin Arhin, also known as Nana Semanhyia, through the Semanhyia Group of Companies.[4] Construction was completed in late 2021, and the facility was officially inaugurated in December of the same year. The launch event was attended by traditional leaders, businesspeople, and other invited guests.[1][2][5]
Facilities
The mall contains more than 55 shops, including anchor tenants such as Ashfoam, a supermarket, electronics retailers, a pharmacy, and a beauty clinic.[6]Additional features include:
- A four-screen cinema with 7D experiences[7]
- A skylight indoor pool, fitness center, and salon
- A nightclub, rooftop bars, and lounges
- A children’s playground and family recreation area
- Laundry and conference facilities
- Parking for over 200 vehicles[6]
Events and Community Engagement
Since its opening, SG Mall has hosted various concerts and community events. In February 2025, Ghanaian highlife musician Kojo Antwi performed at the mall’s Night of Love concert.[3]
Chris Hughton was officially unveiled as the head coach of the Ghana national football team on March 20, 2023, at SG Mall in Kumasi.[8]
Ownership
SG Mall is owned and operated by the Semanhyia Group of Companies, which was founded by John Akortsin Arhin, also known as Nana Semanhyia. According to Arhin, the mall was established to contribute to regional development and offer a contemporary retail space in Kumasi.[1]
