The Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RANS) (Russian: Российская академия естественных наук - PAEH) is a Russian non-governmental organization founded on August 31, 1990 in Moscow in the former Soviet Union, following a decree by the Supreme Soviet of Russia.[1] As of 2018, the Academy operates under the Federal Law of August 23, 1996 No. 127-FZ "On Science and State Scientific-Technical Politics".[2]

As of 2020, its president is Oleg Leonidovich Kuznetsov[3] and its Vice President and Chief Secretary is Lida Vladimirovna Ivanitskaya.[4] Sergey Kapitsa was the former vice president.[5]

The academy is not associated with the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Russian Academy of Natural Sciences has been criticised because many members lack scientific credentials and some espouse pseudoscientific theories such as Aušra Augustinavičiūtė's socionics and Anatoly Fomenko's "New Chronology".[6][7][8] Currently, the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences includes 24 central sections, more than 100 regional and thematic departments, research centers, united in eight blocks working in the relevant areas.[9]

Some notable academicians of RANS

By 2010, RANS had 12 members who had been awarded the Nobel Prize, and nearly 200 members who were prominent scientists of the Russian Federation and at the same time members of other academies such as RAS, RAMS, RAO, and RAAS. Some of the Nobel laureates include Alexander Prokhorov, Zhores Alferov, and Ilya Prigogine. Academician Sergey Kapitsa, former Vice President of RANS, was the son of physicist Pyotr Kapitsa, who won the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to low-temperature physicsСкачать Академия в лицах: 20 лет Российской Академии естественных наук РАЕН [PDF - Все для студента].
