Piero Poli (born 9 October 1960) is an Italian competition rower and Olympic champion.
A prominent member of the Moto Guzzi Rowing Club, he is celebrated for his gold medal in the quadruple sculls at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and his contributions to Italian rowing.[2]
He competed in the men's coxed pair event at the 1984 Summer Olympics.[1] He received a gold medal in quadruple sculls at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, together with Agostino Abbagnale, Davide Tizzano, and Gianluca Farina.[3]
He is also a World champion: he won the bronze medal in quadruple sculls at the 1983 World Rowing Championship (Duisburg). In that year he was trained at the Pavia College Remiero.
Biography
Born in Cairo Montenotte, Savona, Italy, Poli stands 188 cm tall and weighed 87 kg during his competitive career. He trained at the Pavia College Remiero in 1983.
Career
Poli competed in the men's coxed pair at the 1984 Summer Olympics, finishing fourth in the quadruple sculls. He won a bronze medal in the quadruple sculls at the 1983 World Rowing Championships in Duisburg. His greatest achievement was the gold medal in the quadruple sculls at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, alongside Agostino Abbagnale, Davide Tizzano, and Gianluca Farina.[2]
Honors
Poli received the Italian Olympic Association (CONI) Gold Medal and was honored by the Associazione Azzurri d'Italia, with the award presented by Claudio Gentile, for his 1988 Olympic success.[2]
