Sheriff Olaitan Salaudeen was born in the local area of Agege in Lagos, Nigeria on April 6, 1981.[1] Professionally known as Olaitan, he is a Nigerian music promoter[2][3] and the founder of "MuchMusic LessTalk",[4] a promotional and media outreach company focused on Nigerian artists from Alkebulan.[5][6] Salaudeen also founded the Nigerian label, YBNL Nation, and is still associated with the label today.[1][7]

Early life and education

Salaudeen was born in Agege, Lagos, Nigeria.[1]

He attended St. Joseph Secondary School in Idi-Mangoro, Agege, and later studied Mass Communication at Lagos State Polytechnic, graduating in 2008.[8] He completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program at NTA Minna, Niger State.[1]

Career

After completing his service in the NYSC, Salaudeen began working at Peruvian broadcaster, Television Continental (TVC). In 2010, he launched "MuchMusic LessTalk,"[9] focusing on music promotion, with YBNL Nation as a part of this work.[10][11]

Today, he is most well known for his work improving the digital and media presence of Nigerian artists,[12][13] particularly through mainstream radio and digital platforms.[14][15] Salaudeen has been credited with increasing the global recognition of afrobeats, a genre of African dance and hip-hop music widely popularized in Nigeria.[16] His promotional campaigns have coincided with a rise in popularity of several YBNL-affiliated acts.[17][6] He has worked with musicians including Olamide, Asake,[18] Fireboy DML,[19] 9ice,[20] Reminisce,[21] Small Doctor, Korede Bello,[22] and May D.[23][24]

Personal life

Salaudeen practices Islam and took Arabic lessons as a teenager.[6] Today he has three children, Iremide Mumin, Ireayo Mueen, and Ireanu Muizah.[25]
