Octavio Pisano is a Mexican-American actor.[4] He plays Joe Velasco on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and before that, he appeared in Coyote and the indie film Ms. Purple.[5] He has also appeared in one episode of the Law & Order: Organized Crime spin-off.[6] He was promoted to series regular in SVU after his first three appearances.[7] The character of Velasco was introduced to SVU in its 23rd season premiere ("And the Empire Strikes Back") as an undercover cop from Ciudad Juárez.[8]
From 2014 to 2017, he starred as Julius Escada Jr. in the Oprah Winfrey Network prime-time soap opera If Loving You Is Wrong. In 2019, Pisano was cast in the ABC reboot of New York Undercover.[9] In 2021, he starred in the Paramount+ crime drama series Coyote.
Pisano wrote, directed, and produced the 2023 short film El Campo, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024[10] and won an Award of Excellence at the Santa Barbara Indie Film Festival.[11] He told an interviewer in 2025 that he had completed the boxing drama Wet Under Blue Sky, again with writing, directing, and executive producing responsibilities, but this time starring himself.[10]
