Nicole Rita O'Neil (née Gazal; born 7 November 1978), formerly known professionally as Nicole-Rita Ghazal, is an Emirati-born Swedish socialite, event planner, beauty pageant contestant, television personality, and businesswoman. She is best known as an original main cast member on the Arena reality television series The Real Housewives of Sydney (2017, 2023–2025).

Early life

Nicole Rita Gazal was born in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 7 November 1978,[1][2][3] to a Lebanese father, Nabil Nasri Gazal,[4][5][6][7] and a Swedish mother, Maud. She is Swedish. The eldest of four children, she has three younger siblings, a sister and two brothers. Her paternal grandfather, Nasri, was born in Beirut, and started the tradition of picking given names beginning with the letter N.[8]

O'Neil attended Kambala School in Rose Bay, New South Wales.[9] She then attended Bond University in Robina, Queensland, on scholarship, where she earned her Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree in business, management, marketing, and related support services.[10]

Career

O'Neil is the director of Prét-a-Party, an events planning business, which she launched in 2002;[11] Companies House has the British pensioner Barbara Kahan (née Harris)[12][13][14][15][16][17][18] listed as the consultant of the company.[19][20]

O'Neil participated in Miss World Australia as Nicole-Rita Ghazal in 2002, later winning the contest. She then competed at Miss World 2002 as Miss Australia, the 52nd edition of the Miss World pageant, which was held on 7 December 2002 at the Alexandra Palace in London. It was initially intended to be staged in Abuja, but due to religious riots in the nearby city of Kaduna (the "Miss World riots"), the pageant was relocated to England. She was placed in the Top Ten.[21]

O'Neil founded Mr Oxley, a second events planning business, in 2014; she is also the secretary at the company.[22]

O'Neil made three guest appearances on the Bravo reality television series Ladies of London.[23][24][25]

O'Neil rose to prominence as an original main cast member on the Arena reality television series The Real Housewives of Sydney.[26] The first series premiered on 26 February 2017, with AthenaX Levendi, Krissy Marsh, Lisa Oldfield, Victoria Rees, Matty Samaei, and Melissa Tkautz.[27][28] The finale episode aired on 7 May 2017, with the reunion episode hosted by Alex Perry and aired on 14 May 2017. The series was cancelled in 2019. On 27 April 2023, a ten-part revival of the series was announced to stream exclusively on Binge.[29] The second series premiered on 10 October 2023, with Marsh, Kate Adams, Terry Biviano, Caroline Gaultier, Victoria Montano, and Sally Obermeder.[30] The finale episode aired on 12 December 2023, with the reunion episode hosted by Joel Creasey and aired on 19 December 2023.[31] She was not in attendance at the series two reunion, due to a family commitment.[32] Production on the third series was interrupted multiple times. In May 2024, O'Neil, Marsh and cast member reportedly threatened to quit, after objecting to Biviano returning to the series midway of filming.[33] In December 2024, reports of an alleged physical altercation saw production abandon filming. Unedited rushes were subsequently sent to NBCUniversal, owner of Matchbox Pictures, following complaints from several cast members. The third series premiered on 25 February 2025, with Martine Chippendale joining the main cast. The finale episode aired on 29 April 2025, with the reunion episode hosted by Osher Günsberg and aired on 6 May 2025. She was not in attendance at the series three reunion, due to work commitments out of thee country, instead appearing from a remote location.[34] In May 2025, she announced her departure from the show.[35]

O'Neil launched BonPatch, a vitamin, in 2022.[36]

Charity work

O'Neil dedicates much of her time to philanthropic causes. She raised $120,000 for Charlie Teo's Cure Brain Cancer Foundation in 2016, through her Food Truck Fund event. She has served as an ambassador of YOU CAN SIT WITH ME, an anti-bullying initiative, since 2016.[37]

Following the 2020 explosion at Beirut's port, which devastated the city, O'Neil launched Basics for Beirut. The initiative sent six 40 foot containers of aid to Beirut in Lebanon.[38]

O'Neil is a board member of Autism Mates.[39]
