Early life
Nicholas Dimitri Constantine Galitzine[2] was born on 29 September 1994 in Hammersmith, West London.[3][4] His father, Geoffrey Leo Alexander Galitzine, is a co-founder of a glass recycling company and a former financier in the City of London.[5][6] Nicholas's grandfather, Edward Ralph Alexander Tier, changed his surname to Galitzine on 9 April 1956; Nicholas's traceable paternal ancestors are British, and he has no known relation to the Golitsyn family.[7][8] His mother, Lora Maria Konstantina Papayanni, is an American of Greek descent.[9] Growing up, Galitzine visited his relatives in the Peloponnese, Athens, and the islands during the holidays, which helped him connect with his Greek heritage.[5][10] His elder sister, Lexi Galitzine, is an illustrator and interior stylist.[5][11]
Galitzine attended Dulwich College.[12] In his formative years, he played rugby and football, and participated in county-level athletics competitions. He played for the Harlequins Academy and aspired to play rugby professionally until a series of injuries including concussion and an injury to his rotator cuff led his interest to wane and consequently, he stopped playing sports.[13][14] Galitzine was involved with and refined his acting skills at Pleasance Islington, a youth theatre company.[15] He was scouted by a talent agency when acting in a play for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on a whim.
He decided he wanted to focus on acting professionally in lieu of pursuing his university education, which he had recalled feelings of uncertainty for.[16] Galitzine supported himself financially by working part-time jobs, including working at Abercrombie & Fitch, coaching kids' sports, catering, caregiving, and working at a frozen yogurt shop alongside Simone Ashley, future Bridgerton star.[17]

In 2024 Galitzine starred as George Villiers in the Sky Studios historical psychodrama series Mary & George, alongside Julianne Moore.[33][34][35] The 7-episode series released on Sky Atlantic in the UK and Binge in Australia on 5 March 2024,[36] and released for streaming on Starz in the US on 5 April 2024.[37] Galitzine described George Villiers as a "slam dunk" of a role.[38] His performance is praised by Guardian reviewer, "Everyone is wonderful, including the relative newcomer Galitzine who manages to make real a character no one at all in his world cares about beyond his looks.”
He stars alongside the Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway in the film The Idea of You, based on a novel of the same name, and portrays a member of a fictional boy band[39]. Audiences drew comparisons of August Moon to One Direction. His character, Hayes Campbell, engages in a relationship with Hathaway's character, Solène Marchand. The film was released to worldwide streaming on Amazon Prime Video on 2 May 2024.[40] On 6 March 2024, Amazon released a single from the film's fictitious boy band, titled "Dance Before We Walk" and Galitzine was the vocalist.[41]
