History
In 25 December 1919, The section between Nagasaki-Ekimae and Sakuramachi[a] via Bungomachi (豊後町)[b] opened.[2] It extended to Umamachi (now Suwa-jinja Shrine) via Furumachi (古町) in the next year[3]. This line was called Furumachi Line (古町支線, Furumachi-shisen) until 1983.[4]
In 1950s, its route largely changed. Nagasaki-Ekimae Station was moved to 36 m (118 ft) east in 1950.[5] After that, the section between Ogawamachi and Furumachi was closed and the newer line from Ogawamachi and Okeyamachi (桶屋町)[c] was opened in 1954.[7]
Since 2007, 5 derailment accidents happened at the terminus: for twice in 2007,[8] once in 2015,[9] once in 2016[10] and once in 2019.[11] The 5th accident happened even though the shape of tracks was imploved in 2017.[12]
