Mikaela Hoover (born July 12, 1984) is an American actress known for her work in film, television, and voice acting. She began her career in the late 2000s, gaining early recognition for her role in the web series Sorority Forever (2008). A graduate of Loyola Marymount University’s theatre program, Hoover has appeared in several popular television series, including How I Met Your Mother, Happy Endings, and Anger Management. She frequently collaborates with director James Gunn, with supporting roles in his films Super (2010), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), and The Suicide Squad (2021). In 2025, she portrayed Cat Grant in another film by Gunn, DC Studios Superman, and she is set to voice Tony Tony Chopper in the second season of Netflix’s live-action One Piece adaptation. Hoover's career reflects a blend of comedic and genre performances across both mainstream and independent productions.
Early life
Mikaela was born July 12, 1984,[1][2] in Colbert, Washington.[3] She is of Iranian, Italian, and Spanish descent.[3] She started taking dance classes at the age of two and starred in school plays and appeared in local commercials as a child. She was accepted to Loyola Marymount University's theatre program in Los Angeles and graduated with her bachelor's degree in theatre.[3][4]
Career
Hoover made her acting debut in 2007, in the movie Frank. She then went on to book a leading role in Sorority Forever. Shortly after, Hoover got a role in Humanzee after auditioning in front of James Gunn and following that she got offered the lead role in the James Gunn and Peter Safran Xbox show Sparky & Mikaela.
During 2010, Hoover began appearing in American productions with a guest role in How I Met Your Mother. She also got a role in the James Gunn movie Super.
In 2011, she played Jackie in two episodes of Happy Endings and in 2012 appeared in an episode of Anger Management.
In 2013, Hoover appeared in an episode in each of Two and a Half Men and The League, followed by a guest role in an episode of Saint George in 2014.
Hoover continued to work with James Gunn and in 2014 played an unnamed character, Nova Prime's assistant, in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy[5] and Raziya Memarian in The Belko Experiment.
In 2017, Hoover appeared in one episode each of 2 Broke Girls, The Guest Book and Lucifer.
In 2020, she booked minor roles in The Suicide Squad[5] and Guest House, and appeared in the main cast of the Netflix film Holidate, followed by a main role in Netflix's 2021 film Love Hard.
Hoover appears in a supporting role as Cat Grant in the DC Studios film Superman by James Gunn.[6]
In 2025, it was announced that Hoover joined the main cast for the second season of Netflix's One Piece, as the voice of Tony Tony Chopper, to air in 2026.[7][8]
