Mehmet Sami Saraç (born 15 January 1996, Konya) is a Turkish para taekwondo practitioner. He is a three-time world champion (2013, 2014, 2019) and six-time European champion (2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018). He has won numerous medals in different weight classes and disability categories at international competitions.
Career
Saraç started his para taekwondo career in the early 2010s and has achieved significant success at both national and international level.[1] He represents the Konya Büyükşehir Belediyesi Sports Club and competes in the K44 disability class.[2] He won the gold medal at the 2011 European Para Taekwondo Championships held in Moscow.[1]
Saraç captured gold at the 2013 World Championships in Lausanne and at the 2014 World Championships in Moscow.[3] In 2019, he became world champion again in the +75 kg category at the World Para Taekwondo Championships held in Antalya.[1]
He also won bronze at the 2015 World Championships in Samsun, silver at the 2017 World Championships in London, and earned multiple gold medals at both European and World Championships throughout 2018 and 2019.[3]
Saraç won bronze at the 2021 World Championships in Istanbul and at the 2023 World Championships in Veracruz.[4]
Throughout his career, Saraç has accumulated a significant number of European championship titles and placements.[5] He has also succeeded in various national championships.[2]
