Mega Motor Company (Private) Limited is a Pakistani automotive company that has recently entered the electric vehicle (EV) market. It operates as an associated company under the larger Mega Conglomerate (Pvt.) Limited and is also linked with the Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO), a significant energy producer in Pakistan.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
BYD entered the Pakistani automotive market in August 2024 with the launch of the Atto 3, Seal, and Sealion 6 models. In addition, BYD has announced plans to establish a car production plant in Port Qasim, Karachi under a joint venture with Mega Motors, a subsidiary of Hub Power Company, Pakistan's largest independent power producer. The facility is projected to be completed in the first half of 2026.[9][10]
History
Mega Conglomerate (Pvt.) Limited, the parent entity, was established in Pakistan in 2010 as a holding company with diverse interests across various industries, including shipping, energy, real estate, dairy, and consumer goods. Mr. M. Habibullah Khan is the founder and chairman of the Mega & Forbes Group, which encompasses the Mega Conglomerate.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
In a strategic move to diversify its portfolio and align with the growing global trend of electric mobility, Mega Motor Company (Private) Limited, through HUBCO's wholly owned subsidiary HPHL, announced a partnership with BYD Auto Industry Company Limited of China in June 2024. This collaboration marks Mega Motor Company's entry into the electric vehicle sector in Pakistan.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
Operations and partnership with BYD
Mega Motor Company's primary current operation revolves around its partnership with BYD, one of the world's leading New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturers. The collaboration aims to introduce BYD's range of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to the Pakistani market.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
The strategic alliance intends to support Pakistan's move towards sustainable transportation by providing advanced NEV options and contributing to the government's goal of increasing NEV adoption and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Aly Khan, CEO of Mega Motor Company, has publicly expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing its alignment with national economic goals and climate change initiatives.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
While the initial focus is on importing and distributing BYD vehicles, there are plans for developing a comprehensive charging infrastructure to support the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in Pakistan. The long-term vision includes local assembly of BYD vehicles, similar to licensing agreements seen with other international automotive brands in Pakistan.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
Products
As of its partnership with BYD, Mega Motor Company is expected to introduce a range of BYD's New Energy Vehicles to the Pakistani market. These may include, but are not limited to, models such as:
- BYD Atto 3 (electric crossover SUV)
- BYD Seal (electric sedan)
- BYD Shark 6 (pickup truck, potentially a hybrid)
Further product offerings will depend on market demand and the strategic rollout plan within Pakistan.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
Corporate structure
Mega Motor Company (Private) Limited is an associated company of The Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO), which itself is a subsidiary of the Mega Conglomerate. The overall ownership of the Mega Conglomerate rests primarily with Mr. M. Habibullah Khan (88%) and Mrs. Nusrat Khan (12%).[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
