Md. Shahabul Haque (Bengali: ড. মোঃ সাহাবুল হক) is a Bangladeshi professor,[1][2] researcher,[3] political analyst,[4][5] writer, and journalist.[6][7][8] He is a professor in the Department of Political Studies at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.[9]

Md. Shahabul Haque has provided political commentary for media outlets including BBC Bangla, Deutsche Welle,[10] China Media Group, and Anadolu Agency.[11][12][13][14][15] His academic research includes topics related to Bangladeshi and South Asian politics, with additional work on China’s global influence.[16][17][18][19] His book Coalition Politics of Bangladesh: 1954–2014 is used as academic material in some Bangladeshi universities.[20] He is the General Secretary of the Association of Bangladesh-China Alumni and the founding president of the Bangladesh-China Youth Student Association, an organization for Bangladeshi students and professionals with academic backgrounds in China.[21][22] He also serves as the coordinator of the Chinese Corner at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.[23]

Education

Shahabul Haque earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science in 2000 and a master's degree in the same field in 2001 from the University of Dhaka. In 2012, he obtained a Master's degree in International Migration and Social Cohesion from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. In 2020, he completed his PhD in Higher Education Administration from Beijing Normal University in China.[21]

Career

Shahabul Haque joined the Department of Political Studies at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology as a lecturer in 2006. He has participated in organizing academic seminars and conferences at the university.[24] As the General Secretary of the Chinese Alumni, he collaborates with the Chinese Embassy and various universities in Bangladesh and China.[25][26][27] He has worked with the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh on academic and cultural initiatives.[28][29][30] His research work includes topics such as China's Belt and Road Initiative.[3][31]

Before starting his teaching career, Shahabul Haque worked as a journalist for the Bangladeshi national newspaper The Daily Ittefaq.[9] He served as the President of the University of Dhaka Journalists’ Association (2003–04).[6] As a political analyst,[32] Haque writes on various topics, including Bangladesh-China relations, for national and international media.[33][8][34] In his media commentary, Haque discussed the interim government of Bangladesh under Muhammad Yunus and its diplomatic visit to China, describing it as an indicator of strengthening bilateral relations.[35][36]

In 2025, Haque participated in organizing the Bangladesh-China Tea Summit held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, which focused on tea trade cooperation between the two countries.[37][38]
