Mahesh Bhatt is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer known for his works in Hindi cinema in addition to few Urdu and Telugu films.[1] He has produced and directed nearly eighty films in a variety of genres and addressed social issues such as discrimination, casteism, corruption and injustice.[2][3] His directorial works such as Saaransh (1984) was India's official entry to the 57th Academy Awards, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) won him National Film Award – Special Mention, Sardari Begum (1996), won the Best Feature Film in Urdu. The 1998 drama Zakhm won him the National Film Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration, and Filmfare Award for Best Story.[4][5]

Bhatt and his brother Mukesh Bhatt joined hands to establish Vishesh Films and then provided stories and screenplays for over twenty films, many of which were box-office successes. Raaz (2002), Jism (2003), Murder (2004), Gangster (2006), Woh Lamhe (2006), Jannat (2008), Murder 2 (2011), and Aashiqui 2 (2013).[6][7]
