The Longchuan River (Chinese: 龙川江) is a main tributary of the Jinsha River,[1] located in central Yunnan Province, China.[2][3][4] The river begins at Laochanghe Reservoir.[5][6] It flows east through Nanhua and Chuxiong City, then turns north into Luxi County and Yuanmou County,[7] where it joins the Jinsha River near Jiangbian Township.[8] The river is approximately 246 kilometers long and drains a watershed of about 9,240 square kilometers.[4][9] Most of the basin consists of mountainous and hilly terrain, with an elevation drop of over 1,600 meters from source to mouth and an average riverbed gradient of 4.8%.[10][1]
