London Buses route 99 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Woolwich High Street and Bexleyheath Town Centre (Geddes Place), it has been operated by London Central, a subsidiary of Go-Ahead London, since 18 January 2025 after winning the contract from Arriva London.[1]

History

The 99 route was first established in 1934 linking Woolwich to Erith[2].

After privatisation, one of the initial 11 business units Selkent operated the route, first through it's subsidiary Bexleybus from 1988 to 1991, and then by itself after Bexleybus collapsed. Selkent continued operating the route until 2018, although they were purchased by Stagecoach Group in 1994 and rebranded as Stagecoach in 2000. The route was extended from Erith to Bexleyheath on 24 January 2009.[3]

Arriva London North won the 2017 tender and operated the route from 2018 to 2025.[4] In 2024, London Central (Go-Ahead) won the operating contract beginning 18 January 2025 and ending 16 January 2032 to introduce electric double deck buses on the 99 route with a peak vehicle requirement of 14.[5][6]
