Leta milosti is a fantasy novel by Slovenian author Sebastijan Pregelj. It was first published in 2004 by Goga.[1][2] The novel was a finalist for the Kresnik Award in 2006.[2]

Plot

The novel spans five chapters, each set in a different year, with the main events occurring between 1998 and 2002, alongside segments from the 18th century and a future setting in 2006. It follows Frančiška Kavka, a retired cleaner, who finds human fingers fallen from an angel statue, triggering an investigation. The discovery attracts media attention, leading to Frančiška's injury and the suspicion of her neighbor Matej. Father Virgil confesses and is sent to a psychiatric facility. The narrative shifts to 1771, where Agata encounters Matej, identified as an angel, with assistance from another angel. In 2002, notes from an angel named Sahiel are found, and the Church exerts influence over former officials. Father Virgil is killed by wolves, while Frančiška searches for Matej, who is captured by the Vatican. The 18th-century storyline includes historical references to Pope Pius VI's visit and Grubar’s Canal, as well as a pursuit of fallen angels. The story ends in 2006 with the death of Inspector Gombač and Kozma Breclj’s transformation into a figure hunting angels.[2]
