Malik Tijōn /məˈliːk taɪˈʒoʊn/ [1] fka Lege Kale is an American record producer, songwriter, and Christian vocalist from Columbus, Ohio. In 2016, he gained critical acclaim as one of the producers of "iSpy" by Kyle featuring Lil Yachty.[2] His debut ep "Prologue" was released on February 14th, 2023, serving as his first offering in the faith based music space.
Career
Malik released his first project "The Colours EP", under his then producer alias Lege Kale which gained him recognition from Soulection, who used his music to launch their first show on Beats 1 Radio.[3]
In 2016, Malik joined the art label As We Arrive. He produced American rapper Khary's first hit song "Find Me", which saw an equally successful remix release featuring Sylvan Lacue via The Fader,[4] and an addition to the official soundtrack for NBA Live 2018.[5] In 2016, he released a series of original works which he collectively dubbed the "2016 Singles Series" which gained him support from fans and the Huffington Post.[6] In September 2016, he released an official remix for Aminé's song "Caroline".[7] In December 2016, he co-produced Kyle's song iSpy, which rose to Number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100,[8] and is certified at 8× Platinum by the RIAA.[9]
In 2017, after parting ways with As We Arrive, Malik would go on to found his Columbus Ohio based Creative firm "MOUNT VERNON", serving as a hub for upcoming talent, especially in the Christian music space.[10]
In 2021 after connecting with his faith, he officially changed his name from "Lege Kale" to his birth name of Malik Tijōn. This marked a stark pivot away from the secular music and production he had been known for and sparked the beginning of his transition into the space of Christian soul music. He from there developed on his sound within the alt rnb, neosoul & funk realms.[10]
In 2023, Malik would debut his first project as a faith based vocalist with his Ep "Prologue" which released to strong acclaim from colleagues & peers.[11] This was followed up with a deluxe edition dropped for the one year anniversary of the original project in 2024 preluded by a single & music video release in the form of his song "Climb" in late January 2024.[12][13]
In 2024, This was followed up by the release of his LP "Homecoming", serving as a final offering to close out the year for the artist.[14]
