Laurent Granger

Laurent Granger (25 June 1637 – 1 March 1703) was an English-born Acadian sailor who served with Sir Thomas Temple.

Granger's origins are heavily conflicted, most sources agree that he was born in Plymouth, England, while others say he was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts to an English father and unknown Mi'kmaq mother. Granger first traveled to New England before being recruited by Temple to travel to Port-Royal, with a group of settlers living in Boston.[1]

In Acadia, Granger converted to Catholicism and married Marie Landry, the daughter of French Acadian settlers. Granger's name was also changed to Laurent from Lawrence.[2] In 1695 Laurent signed the oath of allegiance to the King of England in Port-Royal.[3] The couple had 8 children and continued to live in Port-Royal until Laurent's death in 1703
