k-ID is a Singapore-based software company that develops tools to help game developers comply with international child safety and privacy laws.[1] Its platform provides age-assurance technology and customizable compliance tools that automatically adjust user experiences based on regional regulations.[2]

History

k-ID Pte Ltd was incorporated in Singapore in February 2022. It was founded by privacy lawyer Kieran Donovan, along with Timothy Ma, Jeff Wu, and Julian Corbett.[3] The company launched publicly during the 2024 Game Developers Conference.[4]

In March 2024, k-ID announced a seed funding round of $5.4 million.[4] In June 2024, it secured a $45 million Series A investment led by Andreessen Horowitz and Lightspeed Venture Partners, bringing its total funding to over $50 million.[5]

k-ID partnered with Rocket Science Group in August 2024 to integrate K-ID during co-development cycles.[6]

Platform and technology

k-ID sells a developer toolkit that includes APIs and SDKs used to assess user age and apply age-appropriate platform settings.[7] These tools manage functions such as communication restrictions, data handling, spending limits, and privacy controls. The system adapts to the laws of over 200 jurisdictions, including COPPA (U.S.), GDPR-K (EU), and similar child protection regulations in other countries.[8]

Reception

k-ID’s platform has been covered by multiple technology and gaming publications. TechCrunch praised the platform for its use in complying with complex global regulations.[2] VentureBeat and GeekWire commented on its ability to reduce compliance burdens.[7][9] Forbes emphasized the importance of k-ID’s platform in the context of governments implementing stricter digital protections for children.[10]
