Research

Jiangxi Agricultural University independently established the first national key laboratory in Jiangxi Province and the only national key laboratory in China dedicated to pig genetics and breeding, with a total of 53 ministerial and provincial level scientific research platforms. The university has developed distinctive academic strengths in fields such as swine genetics, rice cultivation, and biodiversity conservation.

The university led the independent development of the swine genetic breeding technology "Zhongxin No. 1", which is internationally advanced, widely promoted nationwide, and also disseminated globally. It was the first to discover a causal mutation in host genes affecting gut microbiota composition in agricultural animals, publishing a breakthrough research article in Nature. This publication represents the first long-format Nature article from Jiangxi Province, the first in Chinese animal husbandry science, and only the third such article worldwide in pig genetics over the past 20 years.

The university also led the breeding of the new pig breed "Shanxia Changhei", which was nationally approved, becoming Jiangxi's first nationally certified new pig breed since 1999.

Additionally, the university has received Jiangxi's first major project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the province's first National Science and Technology Progress Award, and the National Technological Invention Award, and bred Jiangxi's first super rice variety.

Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the university has won over 100 scientific and technological awards at various levels, bred more than 80 new varieties including swine, rice, sweet potatoes, taro, lilies, peanuts, navel oranges, kiwifruit, and forest trees, and developed numerous key agricultural technologies.

The university's scientific achievements have been selected for the "Top Advances in Chinese Agricultural Science" for two consecutive years.[6]
