J.S.S. Academy of Technical Education, Noida (Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Academy of Technical Education, Noida; abbreviated as JSSATE Noida) is a private engineering institute affiliated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University[2] situated in Sector 62, Noida. It is part of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha group of Institutions, Mysuru established in 1954 by Jagadguru Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswami.

Academics

As per the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the institute offers undergraduate programs in Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), Information Technology and Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science), along with a postgraduate program in Master of Computer Applications (MCA).[3][4]

The undergraduate students at JSSATE are selected through Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling (UPTAC) process, organised by AKTU every year.[5][4] Seats are allotted on the basis of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) ranks, along with the reservation criteria laid down by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.[6]

Collaborations and recognitions

In October 2016, JSSATE was designated as a PhD research centre in Mechanical Engineering by AKTU, enabling doctoral candidates to pursue research in its facilities. The designation was awarded based on the college's infrastructure, faculty quality, and equipment, with AKTU committing to sanction funds of up to ₹5 lakh per project for promising research proposals.[7]

Campus

Expansion

In December 2023, it was reported that JSSATE planned to establish an additional campus in Greater Noida. The Greater Noida Authority identified two potential plots in Techzone 2—one of 28 acres and another of 33 acres near the Stellar IT Park—and hosted institutional representatives to discuss land allotment for the proposed campus development.[8][9]

Ranking

JSSATE was ranked in the 201–300 band among engineering institutes in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2024.[10] Outlook India ranked it 67th among 160 private engineering institutes in 2024,[11] and 72nd among 200 private engineering institutes in 2025.[12]

Innovations and incubations

Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Park (STEP)

JSSATE also has a Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Park (STEP) within their campus above the Library. It offers facilities such as nursery sheds, testing, and calibration facilities, precision tool room/central workshop, prototype development, business facilitation, computing, data bank, library and documentation, communication, seminar hall/conference room, common facilities such as phone, telex, fax, photocopying. It offers services like testing and calibration, and consultancy. Training, technical support services, business facilitation services, database and documentation services, quality assurance services, and common utility services.[16]

The Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park is a registered society under the Society Registration Act, 1860.[17]

In 2022, a startup incubated at JSSATE-STEP, Shellios Technolabs, developed and commercialized an anti-pollution helmet named Puros. It has a granted utility patent and was reported to reduce riders' exposure to air pollutants by over 80%. The project received seed support from the Department of Science & Technology and later entered a commercialization partnership with Royal Enfield.[18][19][20]

In November 2023, JSSATE hosted "Sustainable India – 2023", a national-level sustainability event organized in collaboration with the Sustainability and Energy Practitioners Association (SEPA). The event was inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and featured workshops, panel discussions, technical presentations, and a National Solar Competition aimed at promoting renewable energy innovation among students.[21]

In April 2024, JSSATE STEP hosted the Future Tech Summit 2024, which focused on innovating technology solutions for the global population.[22]

Controversies

Girls Hostel Spy Camera controversy

In September 2014, a female student found three spy cameras in the washroom of the girls' hostel. The camera was fixed with duct tape and was hidden under the wash basin. As the news broke out, almost 4,000 students came out on roads to protest against the management and calling for an immediate probe and necessary punitive action.[23] An FIR was filed against four people, which includes the housekeeping staff and security guards.[24]

2022 ragging incident

In December 2022, JSSATE became the subject of a criminal case when four third-year students allegedly assaulted a first-year student after forcing him to address them as "sir" and complete their assignments. The victim sustained fractures in the shoulder and was hospitalized. An FIR was registered under multiple IPC sections—307 (attempt to murder), 325 (grievous hurt), and others—and the accused were suspended.[25][26]
