Heath Hayes is a large village[1] in the Cannock Chase District of Staffordshire, England. It lies to the north of Norton Canes, northwest of Burntwood, east of Cannock and southeast of Hednesford. It is close to the Cannock Chase. The village has become suburban over the past few decades and is now part of the much larger Heath Hayes and Wimblebury civil parish.
History

The area around Heath Hayes was mostly agricultural and farmland, with it undergoing two different names, "Hethhey" and then "Five Ways" before it was named Heath Hayes.[2] Coal mining began in the area during the industrial revolution and the opening of the Cannock Mineral Railway.[3] Multiple coal pits, mines, and collieries operated in the village. Following the closure of the pits and collieries, the land was redeveloped for housing and industry.[4] Eventually developing to an extent, it then joined Heath Hayes with neighbouring villages Hawks Green and Wimblebury. Due to recent housing developments, Heath Hayes has seen a significant increase in the local population.[5]
