The Greece Amputee Football Association (Greek: Ελληνική Ένωση Ακρωτηριασμένων Ποδοσφαιριστών, Elliniki Enosi Akrotiriasmenon Podosfairiston) is the Greek governing body of amputee football and represents Greece at international events and competitions.[2][3] In February 2016, Amputee Football Greece became the 14th member of the European Amputee Football Federation (EAFF).[4][5][6]
History
Establishment, first official game and competition
In June 2016, Greece celebrated its debut in the EAFF Amputee Football Weeks project, an occasion that reflects the nation's dedication to promoting amputee football and supporting athletes with disabilities.[7][8] The project took place in Corinth with the participation of the following players: Alexandros Theodoridis, Dimitris Vouvopoulos, Tasos Tsigas, Georgios Lazaridis, Vasilis Mpakogiannis, Nikolaos Papakyrgiakis, Ioannis Vasiadis, Dimitris Agrianitis, and Nikolaos Papaggelis.[8][9] The informal yet tailored training match that took place in Pallini against AEK Futsal marked the inaugural friendly game for the newly established team.[10] The national team engaged in a charitable tournament on January 8, 2017, competing with staff from the Olympiacos academy and a team of homeless players from Greece. This initiative sought to highlight the issue of poverty while contributing significantly to the food supply for homeless communities.[11][12] Greece's first official friendly game took place on June 9, 2017, where they suffered a considerable defeat against England, ending the match with a score of 0–5.[13] On June 24, 2017, Greece proudly participated in the Amputee Football Cup, signifying a noteworthy chapter in the early history of this sport within the country.[14][15][16] The team competed against Japan and Poland on the opening day of the international friendly cup and faced France on the following day, losing on all three occasions.
Consecutive European competition participations and first trophy
On October 3, 2017, Greece participated in the European Championship for the first time.[17] The date of October 21, 2018, marked a significant achievement for Greece as the national team clinched their first-ever trophy in a friendly tournament hosted in Bruges, Belgium.[18][19] To foster enthusiasm for the sport, the Greece 2004 Legends engaged in an exhibition game with Greece Amp in July 2021.[20][21] Greece participated in the 2021 edition of the European Amputee Football Championship and finished tenth.[22][23][24][25] In January 2022, the team obtained the Gazzetta Fair Play award after receiving 55,273 online votes from the fans.[26] In October 2023, Greece finished third in the EAFF Nations League Division C and qualified for Euro 2024 in France.[27] During the 2024 European Amputee Football Championship, Greece successfully progressed to the subsequent stage by finishing in third place in their group, securing one victory and experiencing two losses. In the playoff phase of the competition, the team lost to both Azerbaijan and Israel, but they succeeded in defeating Georgia, ultimately achieving a fifteenth-place finish in the tournament. [28] To commemorate its tenth anniversary, the UEFA Foundation for Children, with the support of the Kaizen Foundation, staged a unique match featuring two amputee teams consisting of players from England, Greece, and Poland on April 28, 2025. The match took place at Colovray Sports Centre in Nyon before the UEFA Youth League final between Barcelona and Trabzonspor.[29]

Η Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Ακρωτηριασμένων Ποδοσφαιριστών ιδρύθηκε το 2016 και τον Ιούνιο της ίδιας χρονιάς πήρε μέρος για πρώτη φορά στο πρόγραμμα "EAFF Amputee Football Weeks" με τη διοργάνωση αγώνων στην Κόρινθο. Στην πρώτη προπόνηση βρέθηκαν μόλις τέσσερις παίκτες, αλλά τελικά την ομάδα συγκρότησαν οι Αλέξανδρος Θεοδωρίδης, Δημήτρης Βουβόπουλος, Τάσος Τσίγκας, Γεώργιος Λαζαρίδης, Βασίλης Μπακογιάννης, Νικόλαος Παπακυργιάκης, Ιωάννης Βασιάδης, Δημήτρης Αγριανίτης και Νικόλαος Παπαγγελής.

Η πιο τιμητική διάκριση για την ελληνική ομάδα ήρθε στην απονομή της διοργάνωσης όταν της αποδόθηκε ο τίτλος του Ευ Αγωνίζεσθαι (Fair Play) που για κάθε αθλητή έχει ξεχωριστή σημασία διότι ένας τιμητικός τίτλος με ρίζες στους αρχαίους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες.

Συμμετείχαμε στο Euro 2021 στην Κρακοβία, πετύχαμε πέντε τέρματα και σημειώσαμε δύο νίκες, καταλαμβάνοντας την δέκατη θέση, ενώ μας αποδόθηκε και το βραβείο fair play.

Η 16μελής αποστολή της Εθνικής Ομάδας Ποδοσφαίρου Ακρωτηριασμένων αναχωρεί για την πόλη Blankenberge του Βελγίου, όπου και θα συμμετάσχει στο Γ' γκρουπ δυναμικότητας του Nations League, με διοργανώτρια αρχή την Ευρωπαϊκή Ομοσπονδία Ποδοσφαίρου Ακρωτηριασμένων (European Amputee Football Federation). Επισημαίνεται ότι το εθνικό αντιπροσωπευτικό συγκρότημα έχει ήδη εξασφαλίσει τη συμμετοχή του στο EURO 2024 που θα διοργανωθεί στη Γαλλία.
