Fyodor Fyodorovich Laskovsky

Fyodor Fyodorovich Laskovsky (Russian: Фёдор Фёдорович Ласковский; 4 July [O.S. 22 June] 1802 – 20 April [O.S. 8 April] 1870) was a lieutenant general, military engineer, and professor of the Nikolayevsk Engineering Academy in the Russian Empire.

Laskovsky originated from the nobility in Saint Petersburg. He entered military service in 1819 as Conductor in the engineering department and was released in 1820 as a field engineer. He enrolled in the main engineering school, staying in the officer classes, and finally graduating in 1822 from the highest officer class.[1] Laskovsky was active as a professor in the academy of the General Staff from 1824 to 1858. The professor taught the Tsarevich Alexander Nikolayevich (Alexander II), Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich, Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolayevich, Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolayevich, and Duke Peter of Oldenburg.

With Nikolai Vasilyevich Boldyrev, Laskovsky published the Course of Long-term Fortification (Курс долговременной фортификации; Saint Petersburg, 1864). He compiled the Materials for the History of Engineering Art in Russia (Материалы для истории инженерного искусства в России; Saint Petersburg, 1859–65), published in three volumes but ultimately unfinished.[2][3] The manuscript for the fourth volume was stored in the library of the Nikolayevsk Engineering Academy (later in the library of the library of the V. V. Kuybyshev Military Engineering Academy).[4] Two more works were left unpublished: The Siege of Danzig in 1807 (Осада Данцига в 1807 г.) and The Siege of Lille in 1708 (Осада Лилля в 1708 г.).[1]
