Falak Naz (Urdu, Khowar: فلک ناز) is a Pakistani politician who is serving as a member of the Senate of Pakistan from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since March 2021. She belongs to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.[1][2] Naz hails from the village of Rayeen in the Torkhow Valley of Lower Chitral District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.[3]

Early Life and Education

Falak Naz comes from a politically influential family in the Chitral Belt, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master's degree from the University of Peshawar. During her master's studies in 1994, she joined the People’s Students Federation, the student wing of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), advocating for student rights under the mentorship of Benazir Bhutto.

Career

Early Career (1994-2000)

  • Senior Social Organizer, Dost Welfare Foundation (Drug Abuse Program) (Jul 1997 – Sep 2000): Led community-based initiatives for drug abuse prevention and rehabilitation.

Pakistan People’s Party (2001–2013)

President, Women’s Wing, PPP Chitral (2001–2013):

  • Held the role for 12 years, building women’s political organizations (Tanzeem Saazi) at the grassroots level.
  • Awarded party tickets for women’s reserved seats in the Provincial Assembly Khyber Pukhtunkhwa in 2002 and 2013 by Pakistan People's Party (PPP) , supporting female political participation and leadership.
  • Represented Chitral women in provincial forums, voicing local social and economic issues.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (2013–present)

Joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in December 2013. She held various roles in PTI ever since her joining in 2013, including:

  • Deputy General Secretary – Sports & Culture, PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (2014–2017):

Played a prominent role in PTI’s 126-day Tsunami March (Aug–Dec 2014), representing women leaders in political mobilization.

  • Member, Central Core Committee for Women (2017–2020)
  • In July 2019, She was Awarded PTI women’s reserved seat ticket for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly following FATA’s merger.
  • General Secretary, Women’s Wing, Malakand Region (Jun 2020–Mar 2021):

Established organized women’s political structures across 9 districts at union council, tehsil, and district levels.

Oversaw leadership training and cabinet formation for grassroots women activists.

Senate of Pakistan (2021–present)

Senator, Senate of Pakistan (since Mar 2021), elected from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on a reserved seat. Falak naz made history by becoming first female senator of the region. [4] Member, Senate Standing Committees:

  • Federal Education and Professional Training (Mar 2021–Mar 2027)[5]
  • Housing and Works (Mar 2021–Mar 2027) [6]
  • Also served on committees for Narcotics Control, Human Rights, and Planning and Development (2021–2023).

Personal Life

Falak Naz is married into a Pashtoon family and has three children: two sons and one daughter.
