Emran Kabir Chowdhury (born: April 28, 1966) is a Bangladeshi academic and researcher. He was the former vice-chancellor of Comilla University.[1][2][3] And he is the chairman and professor of the Department of Public Health at University of Dhaka.[4] He is the president of the Dhaka University Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Alumni Association.[5]

Early life and education

Chowdhury was born on 28 April 1966. He is married to Sharmin Rumi Alim, a professor at the University of Dhaka. The couple has two sons.[6][7] Chowdhury completed his bachelor's degree in biochemistry at the University of Dhaka in 1986, followed by a master's in the same field in 1987.[8] He further pursued graduate studies in Japan, earning a master's degree in applied microbiology from Kochi University in 1994, and then a PhD in biotechnology from the United Graduate School of Ehime University in 1997.[9]

Career

Chowdhury is a Bangladeshi academic specializing in public health. He served as the vice-chancellor of Comilla University from 2018 to 2022,[10][11][12] He is also a professor at the University of Dhaka in the Department of Public Health.[13]

Chowdhury is a senate member of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology[14] and advisory member of the Bangladesh Biotechnology and Biosecurity Society.[15] And also he is the governer member of the Institute for Developing Science and Health Initiatives.[16]
