Delmaine Donson, is a South African figurative artist, digital illustrator, acrylic painter, and photographer based in Cape Town. Her work focuses on women of colour, exploring themes of femininity, cultural identity, and personal presence.[1][2]

Career

She began her career in commercial photography, including work in stock photography for over seven years, before pursuing independent and stylized artistic photography.[1]

Donson creates figurative portraits using digital media and acrylic painting, often portraying women of colour with a focus on strength, softness, and individuality.[1][2]

Her photographic style features high contrast lighting, bold use of color, and stylized posing, a departure from her more technical stock photo work.[1][3]

Donson appeared on SABC 3’s Afternoon Express, where she discussed her journey as a self-taught artist, her background from Mitchells Plain, her love of cooking, and the importance of family.[2]

Her work has been featured in international publications, including Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, and PopSugar.[4][5][6][7][8][9]

She illustrated the children's book B is for Black Girl (2019).[10][11][1]

In 2019, she was commissioned by Netflix South Africa for their Strong Black Lead campaign, creating an illustration inspired by She’s Gotta Have It.[12][13][14]
