Daiyan Trisha Mohd Nasaruddin (born 22 December 1993)[a] is a Malaysian singer, songwriter, model, actress, writer and host.[1] She first gained widespread attention through her first telefilm titled Dee,[2][3] and since then, she has appeared in various acting credits in television and film including Sejuta Rasa Buat Adelia (2018) and Busker (2018).[4]

Daiyan has recorded a number of commercially successful songs including "Cinta Suka Sayang Kamu", "Kita Manusia" and "If I".[5] She is also known for her ballad single "Penat", her role as Aaida in Projek: Anchor SPM and Mia in Projek: High Council. Daiyan is a young millennial icon who is very influential among the younger generation and is also an ambassador for various brands, including Samsung. Daiyan published his own book titled Writings on August 26, 2023.

Early life

Trisha was born on 22 December 1993 in Bangi, Selangor.[6] She is the second of five children to Samsiah Mohd Nor, a famous novelist[1] and Mohd Nasaruddin Mohamed. Daiyan once worked as a restaurant waiter for a short period while waiting for her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results.[7] She, who is more affectionately called Dee,[1] likes to read and exercise in her free time. Daiyan holds a Diploma in Accounting from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Kolej Universiti Infrastruktur Kuala Lumpur (IUKL).[8][9]

Career

Daiyan began uploading video clips of herself singing cover songs on YouTube at the age of 16.[10] Four years later, in 2013, she began to be active in the Malaysian entertainment world at the age of 20. She first gained public attention through a telefilm titled Dee which was broadcast on Astro Ceria.[11][2][12] This telefilm also produced a TV series of the same title which aired in 2015.[13]

In the same year, Daiyan began his music career by releasing his first single, "Kerana Kau", which was later followed by his second single, "Cinta Suka Sayang Kamu" (2014) featured a duet with the winner of Akademi Fantasia season 10, Faizul Sany.

In 2015, she was appointed as the ambassador and spokesperson for the beauty product Fair & Lovely.[14][15] In the same year, she and Marsha Milan hosen as Disney Princesses.[16]

Her film career began with the comedy-drama film Girlfriend Kontrak (2015) directed by Australian director Virginia Kennedy starring Risteena Munim and Keith Foo.[17] He also duetted with Indonesian singer, Calvin Jeremy through the song "Kita".[18]

In 2017, he released two singles simultaneously, namely "Boy In My Dream" and "Kita Manusia".[19] From November of the same year until January 2018, Daiyan succeeded in the supporting role as Ira in the drama My Coffee Prince directed by Michael Ang, starring Fattah Amin and Janna Nick, which was adapted from the South Korean 2007 drama, The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince.

Her second film, Busker (2018) which paired her with Hafeez Mikail was released on 11 January 2018, in which Daiyan plays the role of Vera.[20][21] It also stars Mas Khan, Lia Natalia and Anas Ridzuan. She received a nomination for the Promising Actress category at the 30th Malaysian Film Festival for her performance in this film.

Daiyan starred alongside Aliff Aziz in the drama Sejuta Rasa Buat Adelia, which was adapted from the novel Ulam Kasih Sambal Cinta by Norzailina Nordin. She plays the role of Adelia Naurah, a chef at Malay Kitchen.[22] She then released the song "Brutal" whose music video was filmed in Los Angeles, California, U.S.[23]

In August 2018, Daiyan Trisha and young composer, Nik Qistina collaborated with HP Malaysia to produce a song and music video that focuses on self-expression among teenagers, where they created a song that tells the story of self-expression by embracing individuality and overcoming difficulties to achieve success.[24] He was entrusted to sing the theme song for the Disney Channel TV series, Wizards of Warna Walk titled "There's Magic Here".

Daiyan then appeared with the song "I Wanna See Ya" in October 2019, this song was a collaboration between Daiyan and Juan Ariza.[25][26] She held a Southeast Asia concert tour with American-born entertainer Sam Tsui at the end of 2019.[27][28]

Daiyan released his first studio album, which uses his name as the album title, released in November 2019 which he self-produced without collaborating with any record company.[29] In July 2020, he appeared with his latest single, "On My Way".[30][31]

Later in October 2020, Daiyan came out with a song titled "Cahaya", which was released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Japanese skincare brand, Hada Labo.[32][33]

Daiyan also ventured into the hosting field, by hosting the show Renovate which aired on Naura HD. In addition, he also appeared in the educational drama Projek: Anchor SPM which revolves around students who sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination around 2000. The drama was directed by Razaisyam Rashid also starred Aedy Ashraf and Shasha Abedul.[34][35] In this drama, she plays the role of Aaidaa. In March 2021, Daiyan along with Alif Satar became the new hosts of Muzik Muzik.[36][37] However, after only 6 months, his contract ended as the host of Muzik Muzik and was replaced by Sissy Imann.[38]

Daiyan launched his latest single, "Penat" composed by himself on 20 August 2021.[39][40] She acted with Aiman Hakim Ridza in Semanis Senyumanmu playing the role of Azra. This drama aired on Disney+ Hotstar starting 1 June 2021 and TV3 starting 7 October.

Daiyan became the main actor alongside Rashidi Ishak and Ben Amir in the drama Tetuan Ang & Rahimin which was broadcast on Astro Ria by playing the character of Budi,[41] and then acted alongside Zizan Razak in the telefilm Rompak by playing the character of Nadia.[42][43] In 2023, she played the role of Mia in Projek: High Council.[44] Daiyan then appeared in the film Sumpahan Jerunei which was released on 27 July 2023.[45][46]

Daiyan has also published a book titled Written by Daiyan Trisha published by Nukilan Biruni Publication.[47] Released on 26 August 2023, this book contains 222 poems in Malay and English that she has written since 2018.[48][49]

He starred alongside Hun Haqeem in the drama W: Two Worlds which premiered on the streaming platform, Viu starting November 30, 2023.[50][51] She plays the role of Izara, a doctor and the daughter of a comic artist.[52]

On 7 June 2024, Daiyan appeared with her latest single, "My Home Is In Your Arms" which was fully composed by her. The music video was released to promote the single, directed by Nadhir Nasar and starring Meerqeen.[53][54][55]

Daiyan's second album, Lovelorn was released on 4 October 2024 under Celeste Studio. This album contains 11 songs of his own creation, one of which is a song he wrote in 2019. In addition, he also appeared with his performance at Daiyan Trisha Live in Surround Sound on 1 and 2 November at Aurum Theatre TRX Kuala Lumpur.[56][57][58][59]

In March 2025, Daiyan released his first Raya single, "Jom Raya", which has two versions, namely a solo version and a duet version with Alfie Zumi.[60][61][62]

Talent

As a singer, Daiyan prefers to sing songs he has composed himself and is less interested in singing songs created by other composers. She told mStar Online in February 2022: "Maybe because I'm a singer and songwriter. So, I don't really like singing songs that other people have created. All the songs I sing are my own creations. Maybe that's my way and I want to continue what I like".[63]

She cited American singer, Taylor Swift as her idol and influence in the field of music.[64]

Personal life

Daiyan revealed in an interview in October 2017 that he had faced depression and various problems related to studies, career, personal life and family until he failed to find a solution and a place to complain.[65]

In March 2019, Daiyan announced in a video clip on her Instagram account that her dream of owning her own house at the age of 25 had been achieved.[66][67]

She shared in a video recording on YouTube that she had gifted a Mercedes-Benz car to her parents as a surprise for their wedding anniversary in November 2020.[68]

Activism

In March 2020, Daiyan donated RM7,000 to non-governmental organisations (NGOs), families and individuals in need of assistance following the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia.[69][70] In 2021, she registered as a volunteer at the Vaccine Delivery Centre (PPV) in conjunction with the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK). Daiyan said: "Actually, I have been wanting to volunteer for the vaccination programme for a long time and it feels like this is the right time. If you look back, I have often spread awareness and spoken out about the importance of getting vaccinated. Finally, my dream of helping the community throughout the pandemic season has come true,".[71]
