Career
Döndü Şahin is a Turkish former taekwondo athlete who competed in the women’s flyweight (–51 kg) division during the late 1980s and early 1990s. She became one of Turkey’s prominent female taekwondo practitioners of her era with significant achievements at both European and world level.
In 1990, Şahin won her first major international medal by claiming the bronze in the –51 kg category at the European Taekwondo Championships held in Aarhus, Denmark.[2] Two years later, she improved her standing at the European level by securing a silver medal at the 1992 European Championships in Valencia, Spain.[3]
Her most notable success came at the 1991 World Taekwondo Championships in Athens, Greece, where she reached the final and won the silver medal in the –51 kg category. This result made her one of only a few Turkish women to have reached the podium at the World Taekwondo Championships during that period.[4]
Throughout her career, Şahin was recognized for her technical skills and consistency at international tournaments, representing Turkey at a time when women’s taekwondo was still gaining prominence on the world stage.[5]
