Husky Highlight: Charles Cobb was hired to replace Billy Goodwin as football coach in 1894. Cobb, a former Harvard player, was the University's first salaried coach. By 1892, University officials had been pressured into financially supporting a football team—the school's first official endorsement of organized athletics. Because the treasury was in a deficit position at the end of the season, university officials could not pay Cobb and so they fired him.
