Benjamin Asare is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Accra Hearts of Oak S.C.[1] and the Ghana national team. In March 2025, national team head coach Otto Addo named him as Ghana's first-choice goalkeeper.[2][3][4]
Club career
Asare joined Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League ahead of the 2023–24 season.[5][6] In the 2024–25 campaign, he kept 12 clean sheets in 18 league matches.[7][8] He was subsequently called up to the Ghana national team.[9] In April 2025, he signed a contract extension with the club until 2027.[10] The following month, he was named Ghana Premier League Goalkeeper of the Month after keeping three clean sheets in five matches.[11][12][13]
International career
Asare earned his first call-up to the Ghana national football team in March 2025 for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. He made his debut in a 5–0 victory over Chad, keeping a clean sheet, and also kept a clean sheet in Ghana's 3–0 win over Madagascar. [14][15] Later that month, head coach Otto Addo described him as the national team's first-choice goalkeeper.[16] Former Ghana Football Association president Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe also publicly supported his selection.[17][18]
