Bandar (Monkey in a Cage) is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language thriller crime drama film directed by Anurag Kashyap for Nikhil Dwivedi under his banner Saffron Magicworks. Inspired by a real-life event, the film starring Bobby Deol and Sanya Malhotra, follows Samar, an aging television star whose celebrity is on the wane.[1][2]
The film will have its world premiere in the Special Presentations section of the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on 6 September 2025.[3]
Synopsis
Samar is not-so-young TV star whose fame is fading. He is happy in a new relationship with a younger woman, Khushi, when his ex, Gayatri, tries to return to his life. Instead of talking to her, Samar cuts off all contact and blocks her. But things take a serious turn when Gayatri accuses him of rape. He is soon arrested and faces a corrupt legal system determined to keep him in jail.

Production
The film an adaptation of Anurag Kashyap’s unpublished written with two other authors, has the screenplay by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee. Principal photography of the film began on 14 May 2024 in Mumbai.[1][4]
Release
Bandar is slated to have its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on 6 September 2025.[5][6][7]
