Arif Niftullayev (Azerbaijani: Arif Arif oğlu Niftullayev, born 21 April 1997) is an Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler who competes in the 97 kg weight class. He is a bronze medalist at the 2022 World Wrestling Championships and the 2024 BRICS Games champion.[1]
Career
Niftullayev began wrestling in 2008 at the Neftçi Sports Club in Baku. He is the son of Arif Niftullayev Sr, a world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling in 1978.[2]
In 2014, he participated in the European Cadet Championships at 63 kg. In 2019, he won a bronze medal at the Club World Championships in Iran and placed 5th at the U23 European Championships.[3]
At the 2022 World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Niftullayev won a bronze medal in the 97 kg category after defeating Italy’s Nikoloz Kakhelashvili in the third-place match.[4]
In 2024, he won gold at the 2024 BRICS Games held in Kazan.[5]
